In a significant push to upgrade urban infrastructure, the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the Mohali Municipal Corporation has given its nod to a slew of development proposals and financial decisions. The meeting, held on Thursday and chaired by Mayor Amarjit Singh "Jeeti" Sidhu, is set to accelerate work on essential civic services across the city.
Major Financial Sanctions for Public Works
The committee cleared work orders totalling a substantial Rs 22.2 crore. These funds are earmarked for a wide array of projects designed to improve the quality of life for residents. The approved works span critical areas including sanitation, solid waste management, water supply augmentation, sewerage system upgrades, electrical maintenance, green belt development, road repairs, and other public amenities spread across various sectors of Mohali.
Furthermore, to ensure a continuous pipeline of development, the F&CC also approved fresh administrative and financial sanctions for new development estimates worth approximately Rs 6 crore. This approval empowers the corporation to initiate new projects and float tenders for them in the near future.
Focus on Water, Waste, and Public Amenities
A core focus of the approved proposals is on strengthening fundamental urban systems. A key project involves the construction of an underground storage reservoir in the Phase 8A and 8B industrial area. With an estimated cost of Rs 1.35 crore, this reservoir aims to streamline water supply and resolve persistent issues faced by the industrial belt.
Other notable works that received the green light include:
- Repair and maintenance of roads across the city.
- Development and beautification of parks and green belts.
- Establishment and upgrade of libraries and open gyms.
- Construction of sheds at RMC (Ready Mix Concrete) points.
- Maintenance and repair of street lighting infrastructure.
The agenda also covered essential operational needs, such as machinery repair and outsourcing manpower, to ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the municipal corporation.
Transparency and Timely Completion Promised
Briefing the media after the meeting, Mayor Amarjit Singh Sidhu emphasized that all decisions were taken with transparency and public interest as the foremost priorities. He assured citizens that the development works are aimed at providing long-term benefits to the community.
Sidhu also set a clear deadline for the majority of these projects, stating that the corporation is targeting their completion by March 31, 2026. With these financial approvals in place, development activity in Mohali is expected to gain significant momentum as projects move swiftly into the execution and tendering phases, marking a new chapter in the city's civic upgrade journey.
