Post-Election Violence Erupts in Nashik Following NMC Results
Nashik witnessed disturbing scenes of violence and aggression after the announcement of the Nashik Municipal Corporation election results. The political tension boiled over into physical confrontations and criminal incidents, prompting police intervention across the city.
Three Separate Police Cases Filed in Upnagar and Nashik Road
Authorities at the Upnagar and Nashik Road police stations have officially registered three distinct cases related to the post-election turmoil. These incidents highlight the volatile atmosphere that gripped parts of Nashik following the declaration of the municipal poll outcomes.
BJP Candidate Alleges Assault and Theft by Rival's Supporters
In one particularly serious complaint, a 57-year-old female BJP candidate reported a harrowing experience. She stated that the husband of the winning Shiv Sena candidate, along with approximately 25 supporters, launched an attack near her residence.
The incident allegedly occurred around 5 pm as the Sena candidate's victory procession passed by her house. According to the complainant, the group began hurling abusive language before escalating their aggression.
"They started throwing burning firecrackers toward my bungalow," the BJP candidate recounted in her police statement. When she and her daughter rushed to extinguish the resulting fire, matters turned worse.
The mob reportedly made lewd remarks toward the women. In the chaos, someone snatched the complainant's gold chain, valued at approximately Rs 2.5 lakh. Her two nephews, who came to assist, were physically assaulted by the group.
Upnagar police have registered a comprehensive case that includes charges of dacoity, rioting, unlawful assembly, and outraging modesty. The investigation targets the winning candidate, her husband, and their supporters.
NCP Candidate Beaten and Extorted Over Election Loss
A second case emerged from Nashik Road police station involving Rohit Gade, a candidate from the NCP (SP). Gade reported being assaulted by Ashok Singh, a supporter of a Shiv Sena activist.
The motive behind the attack appears financial. Singh allegedly demanded Rs 3 lakh from Gade, claiming the Shiv Sena activist had incurred substantial losses while campaigning for his mother, who ultimately lost the election from the Nashik Road area.
"I was beaten up and threatened with dire consequences," Gade told police, describing the frightening encounter. Authorities acted swiftly, arresting Ashok Singh and booking him under serious sections including attempt to commit culpable homicide under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Winning BJP Councillor Attacked at His Residence
The violence even targeted a victorious candidate. In a third case, also filed at Nashik Road police station, newly elected BJP councillor Sharad More from Ward 18 (D) was attacked at his own home.
The assault occurred on Friday night, with the same Ashok Singh identified as the perpetrator. Police Inspector Jeetendra Sapkale confirmed the arrest of three individuals in connection with this attack on Councillor More.
"Ashok Singh was arrested," PI Sapkale stated clearly, indicating police are treating these incidents with utmost seriousness. The series of cases demonstrates how election fervor unfortunately descended into criminal behavior, requiring immediate law enforcement response to restore order in Nashik.
