NCP Candidate's Relative Assaulted in Pune, BJP Supporters Accused of Death Threats
In a shocking incident ahead of the Pimpri Chinchwad civic polls, a relative of an NCP candidate has come forward with serious allegations. The relative claims that supporters of a BJP candidate abused and assaulted the family. They also issued death threats for daring to enter the municipal election fray.
Midnight Attack on Family Home
The disturbing event unfolded around 12.15am on Monday. According to the complaint, the accused forcefully barged into the house of the woman candidate's sister-in-law. This relative lives on the ground floor of the same building where the NCP candidate resides on the first floor.
The sister-in-law filed the official complaint with the police. She stated that the intruders immediately began abusing and assaulting the family members present. One of the accused allegedly shouted, "How dare you field a candidate against us? We will kill you." This verbal threat added to the physical violence of the assault.
Viral Videos and Police Action
Videos capturing parts of the incident quickly spread across social media platforms. The footage shows one of the accused individuals allegedly creating chaos during the confrontation. The widespread sharing of these videos brought significant public attention to the case.
Pimpri police station registered a comprehensive case based on the complaint. The charges include assault or using criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty. Additional charges are rioting, house trespassing, and criminal intimidation. The police also cited unlawful assembly, voluntarily causing hurt, and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Authorities named seven individuals as accused in the case. Chiranjeev Dalalwad, the sub-inspector investigating the matter, provided an update. "We arrested one accused, who is visible creating chaos in the video, while notices were issued to another four," Dalalwad stated.
Political Reactions and Criticism
The incident has ignited sharp criticism in the lead-up to the crucial civic elections. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) utilized its official social media handles to share the viral videos. The party framed the attack as "an example of crime committed with support by those in power for the last nine years in Pimpri Chinchwad."
Rohit Pawar, an NCP (SP) MLA, also reacted strongly to the event. In a post on social media platform X, Pawar commented on the circulated video. He said it displayed "an example of how BJP intimidates people even for contesting the election against their candidate." These statements highlight the political tensions surrounding the local polls.
A senior police officer, who chose to remain anonymous, confirmed the living arrangements. The NCP candidate lives on the first floor, while her sister-in-law, the complainant, resides on the ground floor of the same building. This proximity made the family an easy target for the alleged attackers.
The case continues to develop as police pursue the remaining accused. The assault has raised serious concerns about political violence and voter intimidation in the region.
