Senior Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) leader and former minister of state, Gulabrao Gavande, was hospitalised on Thursday after suffering a heart attack. The incident caused significant concern among his supporters and political circles across the Vidarbha region.
Emergency Response and Critical Transfer
The veteran politician first complained of uneasiness in the early hours of Thursday morning. He was immediately rushed to Icon Hospital in Akola for primary medical treatment. Recognising the seriousness of his cardiac condition, doctors decided to refer him to a major centre for advanced care. Gavande was consequently transferred to Nagpur, where he was admitted to Arneja Hospital.
Advanced Medical Procedure and Current Status
At Arneja Hospital, a team of cardiologists performed an urgent angioplasty on Thursday itself. Senior cardiologist Dr. Jaspal Arneja provided details of the procedure to the media. He stated that Gavande had a calcified blockage in one of his main arteries.
The medical team used a minimally invasive advanced technique called rotablation for calcium modification before successfully inserting a stent. Dr. Arneja confirmed that the NCP leader is now out of danger and recovering well, with a likely discharge from the hospital in a day or two.
Family Assurance and Political Concern
Echoing the doctor's positive assessment, Gavande's younger son, Yuvraj Gavande, informed that his father's condition is stable and he is responding positively to the treatment. The sudden news of the senior leader's illness sent shockwaves through political circles in Akola and the wider Vidarbha belt.
Several political leaders, party workers, and well-wishers have been inquiring about his health and expressing their wishes for a speedy recovery. The incident has highlighted the health challenges faced by public figures and the swift medical response systems in place.
