Odisha Cancels 42 Fake Pollution Test Centre Licences, Cyber Police Alerted
Odisha cancels 42 fake vehicle pollution test centre licences

In a major crackdown on fraudulent environmental compliance, the Odisha government has revoked the operating licences of 42 vehicle pollution testing centres across the state. The decisive action was taken after authorities confirmed these centres were operating with fake credentials, undermining efforts to control vehicular emissions.

Cyber Police Complaint Filed Against Fraudulent Centres

Additional Transport Commissioner Deeptiranjan Patra played a pivotal role in the investigation, which uncovered widespread malpractices. Following the confirmation of fraud, Patra took a proactive step by filing a formal complaint at the cyber police station to address these illegal activities comprehensively. This move aims to initiate a deeper probe into the networks behind the fake certification racket.

The transport department has not limited its vigilance to within state borders. Alerts have also been issued against centres suspected of engaging in similar fraudulent practices outside Odisha, indicating a coordinated effort to tackle a potentially pan-India issue.

Massive Gap in Pollution Certificates Uncovered

The crackdown has revealed a startling compliance gap. Official records indicate that a staggering 50 to 60 lakh vehicles in the state are operating without the mandatory Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC). This massive shortfall poses a significant challenge to air quality management and public health standards.

In response, the government is making a strong appeal to all stakeholders, including vehicle owners, testing centres, and enforcement agencies. The call is for strict adherence to norms and ensuring absolute accuracy in pollution data reporting to safeguard environmental standards.

Public Encouraged to Report Issues

To support vehicle owners caught in the fallout of this fraud, the transport department has provided a direct channel for grievance redressal. Additional Transport Commissioner Deeptiranjan Patra urged the public, "Vehicle owners facing issues with fines or other related problems are encouraged to report them via the toll-free number 18003451073."

This initiative is designed to help innocent vehicle owners who may have been issued fake PUCCs unknowingly and are now facing penalties. The government's combined action of enforcement and public assistance highlights a dual approach to rectifying systemic corruption while protecting citizens.
