Police in Begusarai, Bihar, are actively working to identify and apprehend the criminals responsible for the shooting of Under-19 national-level volleyball player Govind Kumar, aged 20. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon on G D College Road in the Mirganj area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Begusarai town police station.

According to authorities, bike-borne assailants targeted Kumar while he was riding his motorcycle. Begusarai Superintendent of Police Manish stated that the victim's family members have not named any suspects in the First Information Report (FIR) filed in connection with the shooting. "Police are investigating the case to identify the culprits as well as arrest them," SP Manish emphasized, highlighting the ongoing efforts to solve this serious crime.
Following the attack, Kumar was initially admitted to a private nursing home in Begusarai. On Tuesday, CCTV footage of the shooting circulated widely on social media platforms, drawing public attention to the case. The video depicts three individuals on a motorcycle overtaking Kumar's bike. The pillion rider, whose face was concealed with a scarf, fired shots at Kumar as their vehicles came close. After the attack, Kumar collapsed on the road along with his motorcycle, while the two helmet-wearing assailants sped away from the scene.
A shop owner near the location provided an eyewitness account, noting that the initial reaction was confusion. "I first took the sound of gunshots as the usual popping sound of bikes that some bikers specially install in their bike these days," he explained. "However, Govind said that he had been shot at. As he was wearing a backpack we could not spot the injury." This testimony illustrates how the incident was initially mistaken for a minor accident rather than a violent crime.
