In the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, a total of 7,555 candidates are contesting, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) fielding the highest number at 1,801, followed by the Congress with 1,550, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with 1,316, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) with 1,251, and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) with 96 candidates. Additionally, 1,528 candidates are contesting as Independents.
Scrutiny and Rejections
During the scrutiny process, nomination papers of 713 candidates were rejected due to various discrepancies. The final list of candidates has been published after the withdrawal deadline.
Electorate Composition
The electorate comprises 18,33,712 male voters, 17,11,635 female voters, and 220 voters listed under the 'other' category, making a total of over 35.45 lakh voters. The election is scheduled to be held in a single phase.
