Dehradun: After enduring a week of unusually hot weather, Uttarakhand is likely to experience rain and strong winds over the next four days, bringing much-needed relief from the heat across parts of the state.
Forecast Details
According to Meteorological Centre director C S Tomar, light rain is expected in the districts of Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Chamoli, and Rudraprayag on May 24. From May 25 onwards, light to moderate rain has been forecast for three consecutive days across all districts except Haridwar and US Nagar.
Tomar also issued a warning regarding strong winds, stating, "We have also issued a warning as winds ranging between 40 kmph and 50 kmph are likely across the state." He added that weather activity is expected to intensify on May 28, while areas above 4,000 meters are likely to receive light snowfall.
Recent Heatwave Conditions
The forecast comes after a week of unusually hot weather. Dehradun recorded temperatures above 40°C on several days, while Mukteshwar crossed the 30°C mark. Several hill districts also recorded higher-than-normal maximum temperatures. Temperatures in the hills remained around 4°C above normal until Saturday, while the plains were about 3°C above normal.
This prolonged heatwave has been a cause for concern, particularly for residents in the plains and hill regions. The upcoming rain and winds are expected to provide significant relief and bring temperatures closer to normal levels.
Advisory for Residents
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions during the period of strong winds and rain. Authorities recommend securing loose objects, avoiding travel during peak wind speeds, and staying indoors when possible. Farmers in the region are also advised to take protective measures for their crops.
The meteorological department will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
