In a significant push for infrastructure development, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved a major financial package for Chhattisgarh. The central government has sanctioned a substantial sum of Rs 664.67 crore for the comprehensive upgrade of four crucial road sections within the state.
Details of the Sanctioned Road Projects
The formal sanction order was issued by the Ministry to the Secretary of the Chhattisgarh State Public Works Department. This funding, allocated under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), will facilitate work on approximately 174 kilometers of roads spread across five districts. The state PWD had initially submitted detailed proposals to the Centre for these essential upgrades.
The sanctioned works encompass a range of improvements, from widening to strengthening. The key projects include:
- Kota-Lormi-Pandaria Route: A sum of Rs 156.33 crore has been earmarked for constructing a 4-lane road and strengthening a 21-km stretch on this route.
- Kanker-Bhanupratappur-Sambalpur Route: This 48.4-km corridor will be widened and strengthened into a 2-lane road with a budget of Rs 130.63 crore.
- Sukma to Dantewada Stretch: A combined allocation of Rs 230.85 crore is set for developing a 2-lane road on this vital 68-km link.
- Rajim-Fingeshwar-Mahasamund Route: Rs 146.86 crore has been sanctioned for the upgradation and strengthening of this 35.5-km road section.
Focus on Regional Connectivity and Growth
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the central support. He emphasized that these infrastructure projects are strategically important. They are expected to dramatically improve connectivity in remote and Naxal-affected areas, as well as in the plains of the state.
This enhanced road network will facilitate smoother transport of goods and people, thereby acting as a catalyst for regional economic growth and development.
Government's Commitment to Infrastructure
Deputy Chief Minister and PWD Minister Arun Sao, who also thanked the PM, stated that strengthening state connectivity remains a top priority for the government. He highlighted the department's proactive approach, revealing that over the last two years, new sanctions worth a staggering Rs 8,092 crore have been issued for various road works.
Minister Sao assured that the administration is fully committed to ensuring the timely completion of these newly sanctioned projects within their stipulated timeframes. This latest sanction is seen as a continuation of the concerted effort to build robust infrastructure that connects hinterlands to mainstream economic centers.
