Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday announced a Rs 500 crore package for the integrated development of Naya Gaon, vowing to make the area a part of New Chandigarh in all aspects if his party comes to power in Punjab.
Addressing a Public Meeting
Speaking during a municipal poll campaign rally, Badal outlined the SAD's vision for holistic development, which includes legalising unauthorised colonies and upgrading civic infrastructure. He assured residents that the party would regularise colonies and develop a modern road network, sewerage system, and proper street lighting. "Naya Gaon will be upgraded as part of New Chandigarh," he declared.
Allegations Against Previous Governments
Badal criticised both the previous Congress regime and the current Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for neglecting the area and failing to provide basic amenities. He promised to return a year after forming the government to review progress on residents' demands.
Support for Local Leadership
The SAD chief praised local leader Ravinder Singh Khera and urged residents to back his leadership. Party leaders Gurdhyan Singh and SGPC member Ajmer Singh Khera were also present at the event.
