Samastipur Encounter: Robbery Accused Shot in Leg, Fourth in 3 Days

Patna: An accused involved in multiple robbery cases was injured in a police encounter in Samastipur district on Tuesday night. He was shot in the leg and admitted to Sadar hospital for treatment. Several criminal cases were registered against him, police said. This is the fourth such encounter reported between May 18 and 20, after CM Samrat Chaudhary warned that 'if criminals fire bullets, they will face bullets.'

Details of the Encounter

According to police, Prince was arrested on Tuesday with looted items, though no weapon was recovered at the time. Based on information he disclosed during interrogation, a police team took him to the Ujiarpur police station area on Tuesday night to recover the weapon. Near Ujiarpur High School, Prince allegedly pushed a policeman and attempted to flee. Police asked him to stop, but when he failed to comply, they opened fire, injuring him in the leg.

Police Statement

Samastipur SP Arvind Pratap Singh said, 'Prince, a resident of Chakshekhu village under Dalsinghsarai police station area, was involved in CSP loot and roadside snatching cases in Ujiarpur, Sarairanjan and Kalyanpur police station areas in recent days.'

Previous Encounters

Earlier, in Siwan district on May 18, an accused involved in the loot of jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh was shot in the leg during a police encounter and arrested. The robbery had taken place in Jamapur Bazar on May 6, and the main accused was identified as Ankit Kumar Singh.

Patna Encounters

On the same day in Patna, another accused, Sandeep alias Badal, was shot in the leg while his accomplice was arrested after a police encounter. He was involved in firing at a government school teacher, Shambhu Kumar, during a robbery attempt on May 13.

On May 19, Patna police shot and injured a criminal involved in the daylight Rs 27 lakh loot from a security van on May 13. The accused, Nitish Kumar, was arrested after being injured in the encounter.

These incidents follow a directive from Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, who has taken a tough stance against criminals. The police have intensified their operations, resulting in a series of encounters that have led to the arrest or injury of several wanted criminals.
