Siddaramaiah Calls for Public Unity to Protect MGNREGA in Mysuru Speech
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made a strong appeal to the people on Sunday. He urged them to unite and intensify their struggle. The CM demanded the withdrawal of the VB G RAM G law. He also called for the full restoration of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
CM Launches Development Projects Worth Rs 323 Crore
Siddaramaiah spoke at a public event in Kupya village. The village is located in T Narasipura taluk of the Varuna assembly segment. He inaugurated several development works and laid foundation stones. The total value of these projects is Rs 323 crore. The district administration and zilla panchayat organized the event.
The Chief Minister recalled the history of MGNREGA. He stated the act was enacted in 2005 during Manmohan Singh's tenure as Prime Minister. Siddaramaiah emphasized it guaranteed the right to work for poor citizens across India.
Allegations Against BJP and Call for Mass Movement
"That hard-fought right is now being diluted," Siddaramaiah declared. He directly accused the BJP of not wanting to provide employment to the poor, women, and laborers. The CM alleged the central government is weakening a law that ensured work on demand. He claimed people are being misled about its provisions.
Siddaramaiah urged citizens to prepare for a large-scale mass movement. He said this movement is necessary to protect MGNREGA from further erosion. The Karnataka government is fighting firmly to continue the scheme. The CM described MGNREGA as a constitutional right, especially crucial for Dalit communities and women.
"This law should not be scrapped under any circumstances," Siddaramaiah stressed forcefully.
Highlighting Development in Varuna Constituency
The Chief Minister shifted focus to development initiatives in his home constituency. He revealed that works worth a total of Rs 1,932 crore were launched in Varuna since the Congress came to power in the state.
He provided a detailed breakdown of this funding:
- Rs 501 crore was sanctioned on October 22, 2024.
- Rs 1,108 crore was sanctioned on August 9, 2025.
- Rs 323 crore was sanctioned on Sunday.
These funds cover over 1,500 individual projects. The projects focus on general development and the Congress party's guarantee schemes.
Refuting Claims of Financial Distress
Siddaramaiah strongly refuted opposition allegations of financial distress within the state government. He provided figures to counter these claims.
"Nearly Rs 10,000 crore was spent on development works in Mysuru district alone," the CM stated. He added that the state government has spent a massive Rs 1.2 lakh crore statewide on its various guarantee schemes.
"If the treasury was empty, this would not have been possible," Siddaramaiah argued, challenging his critics directly.
Announcement of New Nimhans Branch
State Medical Education and Skill Development Minister Sharanprakash Patil also spoke at the event. He announced that a new 100-bed branch of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences will be established. This facility will come up within the Varuna assembly segment, boosting local healthcare infrastructure.
