Six Girl Students Injured in West Champaran Road Accident While Heading to Exam
A serious road accident in West Champaran district left at least six girl students injured on Monday morning. The incident occurred near Jaymangalapur on the Lauria-Narkatiaganj main road, within the jurisdiction of the Shikarpur police station area.
The students were traveling to appear for their Intermediate examination when a speeding car collided head-on with their autorickshaw. Officials confirmed the timing of the accident, highlighting the distressing circumstances as the young women were on their way to a crucial academic milestone.
Details of the Accident and Immediate Aftermath
According to an injured guardian, Ramnaresh Yadav, approximately nine girl students from Mathiya village were in the autorickshaw, accompanied by family members. They were en route to their examination centre at Narkatiaganj Central Public School located at Hardiya Chowk.
"Near Jaymangalapur, a high-speed car coming from the opposite direction rammed into the tempo, leaving several passengers seriously injured," Yadav stated. He added that the car driver immediately fled the spot after the collision, abandoning the scene.
Three other students in the autorickshaw sustained minor injuries. After receiving first aid at the location, they were sent to the examination centre with a relative, ensuring they could still attempt their papers despite the traumatic event.
Medical Response and Hospital Referrals
Local residents quickly arranged ambulances to transport the injured to the Lauria Community Health Centre. Dr. Raushan Kumar, the in-charge of the health centre, provided details on the admissions.
"Initially, eight injured persons were admitted, including six girl students, the autorickshaw driver, and a guardian," Dr. Kumar explained. "Three students and the driver were referred to another facility. Later, other students also complained of pain and showed signs of unconsciousness, so they were also referred to GMCH for further treatment."
This escalation in symptoms necessitated additional medical attention, underscoring the severity of the impact.
Police Investigation and Legal Actions
Shikarpur Station House Officer Jwala Singh confirmed that an investigation into the accident is currently underway. Authorities are focusing on locating the vehicle and identifying the driver responsible for the hit-and-run.
"Efforts are being made to trace the car and identify the driver who fled the scene. Legal action will follow once the perpetrator is apprehended," SHO Singh asserted. The police are reviewing evidence and witness statements to piece together the events leading to the collision.
The community has expressed concern over road safety, especially on routes frequently used by students during examination periods. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of traffic management and driver accountability in the region.
