A sleeper bus being driven recklessly collided with a line of vehicles that had been stopped to allow the convoy of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to pass on Sikar Road in Jaipur on Saturday evening. The accident left at least six people injured and damaged eight vehicles.
Details of the Incident
The crash took place around 6:15 pm near Suncity in the Harmada police station area. According to police, traffic had been temporarily halted for the movement of the chief minister's convoy after Sharma attended the BJP Jaipur City District training camp, held under the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Prashikshan Mahaabhiyan 2026 at a resort in Nindar village near Harmada. The convoy had passed the spot just moments before the crash.
Police reported that the private sleeper bus, which was traveling from Jaipur toward Sikar, plowed into vehicles waiting in the traffic queue due to overspeeding and negligent driving. The force of the impact left several cars badly mangled, and one vehicle was pushed onto the divider.
Rescue Operations
Police and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene and carried out operations to extract trapped occupants from the damaged vehicles. In one severely crushed taxi, rescuers had to break open the rear gate to save a woman and a young boy who were trapped inside. The boy sustained serious head injuries and was referred to SMS Hospital for treatment.
Investigation and Aftermath
Police said the bus was carrying pilgrims traveling from Ahmedabad to Khatu Shyamji and onward to Haridwar. Preliminary investigation suggests that the bus may have suffered a brake failure before the collision. The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Authorities seized the bus and launched a search to trace the driver.
