UDF Refuses to Join LDF Protest, Levels Serious Allegations
Opposition leader V D Satheesan made a strong statement on Monday. He declared that the United Democratic Front (UDF) will not participate in a protest organized by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala. Satheesan addressed the media in Thiruvananthapuram to explain this decision.
Accusations of Double Standards
Satheesan claimed the Kerala government and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan project a public image of resisting the Central government. However, he alleged they stand submissively before Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during meetings in Delhi. He expressed frustration with this perceived hypocrisy.
The opposition leader accused the government of misleading the public. He said they stage protests outside while quietly signing documents presented by BJP leaders in the national capital. Satheesan cited the PM SHRI scheme as a clear example of this behavior. He stated the government's position on such issues is already well known to everyone.
Protecting UDF Credibility
Satheesan explained that joining such government protests would damage UDF's credibility. He emphasized the importance of maintaining political integrity. The UDF wants to avoid any association with what he called deceptive political theater.
Alleged Unholy Alliance
Satheesan made serious allegations about political relationships in Kerala. He claimed there exists an unholy nexus between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Bharatiya Janata Party. This alliance allegedly protects both parties from legal troubles. Satheesan asserted that the people of Kerala already know about this arrangement.
He further accused the CPM of encouraging majoritarian communalism. This approach supposedly mirrors the BJP's political strategy. Satheesan questioned the relevance of staging protests in front of the Martyrs' Column. He suggested such demonstrations merely conceal political compromises made with BJP leaders.
Political Strategy Shifts
According to Satheesan, the CPM promoted minority communalism until the Parliamentary elections. Now the party has shifted to majoritarian communalism. This move allegedly follows in the footsteps of the Sangh Parivar. The opposition leader claimed the CPM aims to derive political gains by pitting religions against each other.
Satheesan reminded everyone that political confrontation in Kerala has always been between the Congress and the CPM. He claimed the BJP indirectly helps the CPM in Kerala due to its hostility towards the Congress party.
Historical RSS Connections
Satheesan made bold assertions about Chief Minister Vijayan's political journey. He claimed Vijayan won elections with support from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. The opposition leader stated that no Congress legislator in Kerala ever entered the assembly with RSS or BJP support.
He provided specific historical references. Satheesan said Vijayan received support from Jan Sangh during his campaign. Jan Sangh served as the precursor to the BJP. Both parties allegedly contested in one panel during that period.
Satheesan mentioned that KG Marar spoke at Vijayan's election convention. He also claimed the Chief Minister met RSS members secretly after assuming office. The opposition leader used vivid language to describe this relationship. He said Vijayan has been sitting in the pit dug by RSS all these years, even without wearing the RSS costume.
No Lessons from Hypocrisy
Satheesan referred to past instances to establish Vijayan's long-standing links with the RSS. He concluded that the Chief Minister cannot lecture others on opposing the Sangh Parivar. The UDF does not need lessons in opposing the Sangh Parivar from someone who rose to power with RSS support.
Other Political Developments
Satheesan declined to comment on KC(M)'s Jose K Mani skipping the protest. However, he clarified that Mani remains part of the LDF alliance. The UDF leader said his front will not issue statements that undermine the credibility of other political fronts.
He added that if any new party decides to join the UDF, the media will receive proper communication about this development. Satheesan emphasized transparency in political alliances and movements.
