Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Presents Landmark 10th State Budget

In a historic moment for Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday marked a significant milestone by overseeing the presentation of his government's 10th budget. The 2026-27 financial plan proposes a substantial allocation of over Rs 43,565 crore exclusively for new schemes, with a broader focus on driving economic stability and growth across the state.

Budget Highlights and Economic Priorities

Addressing the significance of this budget, CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized its role in strengthening the state's economy. "In the budget, an amount exceeding Rs 43,565 crores has been proposed solely for new schemes. An amount over Rs 2 lakh crores is for capital expenditure... It plays a major role in strengthening the economy, and from here, employment generation will also happen," he stated. He further noted that this is the first time a Chief Minister has had the opportunity to present a 10th budget in Uttar Pradesh, underscoring the government's continuity and commitment.

The Chief Minister elaborated on the budget's core themes, highlighting its focus on the safety of women, the capabilities of youth, the welfare of farmers, and employment generation. He reflected on the state's transformation over the past nine years, noting that Uttar Pradesh's budget has increased more than threefold during this period, representing a shift in perception and development priorities.

Finance Minister's Presentation and Development Achievements

Earlier in the day, Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Khanna presented the State Budget for 2026-27 in the Legislative Assembly. He highlighted what he described as "all-round development" achieved during the previous and current tenures of the Yogi Adityanath government. Khanna pointed to improved national standings, citing Uttar Pradesh's ranking in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) India Index, which has jumped from 29th in 2018-2019 to 18th in 2023-2024.

Khanna also detailed the state's industrial progress, mentioning the successful organisation of the fourth Global Investors Summit in February 2024. "MoUs worth approximately Rs 50 lakh crore have been signed so far, potentially creating approximately 1 million jobs. Of these, four groundbreaking ceremonies have been held for over 16,000 projects involving an investment of approximately Rs 15 lakh crore," he informed the assembly.

Budget Session Details and Future Outlook

The Budget Session is scheduled to run from February 9 to February 20, with the state budget for the 2026-27 financial year formally presented on February 11. This session is expected to delve deeper into the allocations and policies outlined in the budget, with discussions likely to center on:
