Uttar Pradesh's Comprehensive Cattle Welfare Initiative: Over 7,500 Shelters Built Since 2017
In a significant move to address the issue of stray cattle, the state of Uttar Pradesh has constructed more than 7,500 cow shelters across its territory since the year 2017. According to an official spokesperson, these facilities have provided safe haven and shelter to an estimated 16.35 lakh stray cattle, marking a substantial effort in animal welfare and urban management.
Strengthening Administrative Framework with District Committees
The government has further institutionalized cattle protection by establishing dedicated cattle protection committees in every district of the state. To ensure effective oversight and coordination, the district magistrate and the district police chief have been appointed as nodal officers for these committees. This structural enhancement aims to streamline efforts and improve the implementation of cattle-related policies at the grassroots level.
Boosting Rural Economy Through Cattle Distribution Programs
Under the ambitious CM Sahbhagita Yojana and the Nutrition Mission, the state has distributed a total of 1,81,339 cattle to 1,13,534 cattle rearers. This initiative is designed not only to provide care for the animals but also to strengthen the rural economy by increasing the income opportunities for those involved in cattle rearing. The spokesperson emphasized that this program plays a crucial role in supporting livelihoods and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
Crackdown on Cattle Smuggling Networks
In parallel with these welfare measures, the Uttar Pradesh government has launched a rigorous campaign against cattle smuggling. This anti-smuggling drive has resulted in large-scale arrests and the seizure of numerous vehicles, effectively targeting and dismantling illegal networks involved in the illicit trade. The campaign underscores the state's commitment to enforcing laws and protecting cattle from exploitation.
The combined efforts of shelter construction, committee formation, economic support, and law enforcement highlight Uttar Pradesh's multi-faceted approach to cattle management, aiming to balance animal welfare with economic and social benefits for its residents.
