Vadodara to Form Temporary Street Vending Committee for City Streamlining
Vadodara Plans Temporary Street Vending Committee

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is taking a significant step towards regulating the city's bustling street vending scene. To ensure the effective enforcement of state regulations, the civic body is moving to establish a temporary street vending committee.

Proposal Awaits Formal Nod

This initiative is rooted in the Gujarat Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Rules, 2016. The VMC has already drafted a proposal for the formation of a permanent street vending committee and submitted it to the civic body's general board for review. However, while this proposal remains pending approval, the administration is not sitting idle.

Interim Committee to Take Charge

In the interim period, the civic administration is considering the creation of a temporary committee. This interim body will be tasked with overseeing the implementation of street vending regulations across Vadodara. Its primary role will be to manage the transition and enforce rules until the general board gives its official clearance to the permanent committee structure.

Key Responsibilities of the Committee

The proposed committee, whether temporary or permanent, will have several crucial duties. Its mandate will include examining and deciding on fundamental aspects of street vending management in the city.

The key focus areas will be:

  • Identification of Hawking Zones: Clearly demarcating areas where street vendors can legally operate.
  • Database Preparation: Creating a comprehensive and official record of all street vendors operating within Vadodara.
  • Fee and Fine Collection: Streamlining the system for collecting permissible fees and imposing fines for violations, bringing order to the process.

This move by the VMC aims to balance the livelihood protection of street vendors with the need for organized urban management. It seeks to streamline vending activities, reduce congestion, and integrate this vital part of the informal economy into the city's formal regulatory framework.
