In a significant move ahead of the crucial state polls, actor-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has officially initiated the process to draft its policy blueprint for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections.
Committee Constituted to Lead Drafting Process
The party, on Friday, announced the formation of a dedicated committee that will be responsible for creating the party's first election manifesto. The panel is headed by the party's general secretary, KG Arun Raj. It features several prominent members including former MLA JCD Prabhakar and the deputy general secretary, A Rajmohan, among others.
A formal statement from TVK outlined the committee's broad mandate. The party has directed its cadre across the state to actively assist and support the panel members during their upcoming outreach efforts in various districts.
Statewide Consultations to Shape Policy Vision
The manifesto drafting process is designed to be highly inclusive and data-driven. According to the party's plan, the committee will engage with a vast array of stakeholders from every corner of Tamil Nadu. The list of groups to be consulted is extensive and aims to cover all sections of society.
The panel will hold discussions with representatives from small and medium enterprises (SMEs), labour unions, industry experts, and chambers of commerce. It will also seek inputs from employee unions, farmers' associations, educators, and healthcare professionals. Furthermore, the committee plans to interact with women's organisations, youth groups, and the general public to comprehensively assess their needs and priorities.
The core idea is to prepare a manifesto grounded in the direct feedback and data collected from these interactions. The stated ultimate goal is to craft policies that advance public welfare and propel the overall development of Tamil Nadu.
Building on Vijay's Recent Welfare Promises
This strategic step follows a key public address delivered by party chief Vijay in Kancheepuram. In that speech, he had outlined several welfare-oriented themes that are expected to form the cornerstone of the party's electoral promises.
Notable among these were a pledge to provide free two-wheelers and the implementation of a comprehensive 'housing-for-all' programme. The newly formed committee's task will now be to expand on these ideas and build a full-fledged, actionable governance document based on wider public consultation.
The formation of this manifesto committee marks a formal and structured entry of TVK into the policy arena of Tamil Nadu politics, setting the stage for a competitive electoral battle in 2026.
