Woman Found Dead in Canal in Warangal

A tragic incident has come to light in Warangal district, where a 35-year-old woman was found dead in a canal at Lakshmipuram village in Duggondi mandal. The Duggondi police have registered a case and are investigating the possibility that an alleged extramarital affair may have led to the murder.

Victim Identified

The deceased has been identified as Tallapally Sumalatha, a resident of Lakshmipuram. She is survived by two children. Her husband, Mahender, passed away four years ago due to illness, leaving her to raise the children alone.

Sequence of Events

According to Duggondi Circle Inspector (CI) M Sai Ramana, Sumalatha reportedly left her mobile phone at home and went to Warangal for shopping on Wednesday. However, she did not return to the village that evening. Her family members assumed she would return on Thursday morning and did not initially raise an alarm.

On Thursday, workers of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) discovered the body of a woman near the canal on the outskirts of Lakshmipuram village. They immediately alerted the local police.

Police Investigation

Upon receiving the information, Duggondi police rushed to the spot and secured the area. Police suspect that she was murdered and are investigating whether an alleged extramarital relationship was behind the crime. A knife was seized from the scene as potential evidence.

Police said that her bag and chappals were found in different locations, while beads from her necklace were also discovered along the route. These clues suggest a struggle or that the body was moved. Police described the case as a suspected murder, and special teams have been deployed to gather more clues and track down the culprits.

Post-Mortem and Legal Action

CI Ramana stated that the woman’s throat had been slit by unidentified persons. The body was shifted to Narsampet government hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigations are ongoing.
