CM Yogi Adityanath Blames Colonial and Past Govts for Uttar Pradesh's Economic Woes
In a sharp critique of historical governance, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asserted that the colonial era transformed the farmer from a producer into a consumer, while subsequent Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP) administrations compounded this by turning the same farmer into a debtor. Speaking on the state's economic trajectory, the CM outlined a narrative of systemic failure that led to widespread distress.
Historical Grievances: Farmers, Artisans, and Traders Suffered
Adityanath elaborated that the artisan, who inherently possessed entrepreneurial spirit, was left disappointed and compelled to migrate due to neglectful policies. Similarly, the trader, who historically served as a vital bridge connecting the nation from north to south and east to west, was thrust into an environment of fear and disorder under previous regimes.
The cumulative impact, according to the Chief Minister, was a dire situation marked by despair, severe farmers' distress, and the closure of numerous Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across Uttar Pradesh. This period, he implied, stifled economic growth and community stability.
A Nine-Year Transformation: Reversing the Tide
Contrasting this bleak past, Adityanath highlighted a significant turnaround over the last nine years. He credited a clear and focused agricultural policy with reversing the adverse circumstances that once plagued the state's primary sector.
"Earlier, the scenario was characterized by high costs and low production, with middlemen dominating the supply chain," the CM stated. "Today, we have successfully lowered costs, boosted production, and ensured that the full benefit of the produce reaches farmers directly through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes."
Uttar Pradesh's Agricultural Renaissance
Adityanath emphasized that this developmental journey has repositioned the food provider—the farmer—at the very center of the state's economic strategy. "Uttar Pradesh has once again placed the food provider at the center and has accelerated the agricultural economy at double speed," he proclaimed, underscoring a renewed focus on agrarian prosperity.
The Chief Minister's remarks suggest a concerted effort to not only address historical grievances but also to foster a more equitable and efficient agricultural ecosystem, aiming to uplift rural livelihoods and strengthen the state's overall economic framework.
