Agathe Laisne Secures First Ladies European Tour Victory at Ford Women's NSW Open in Australia
The first professional win is always a monumental milestone, and French golfer Agathe Laisne experienced that euphoria as she triumphed at the Ford Women's NSW Open in Australia. Laisne clinched her maiden victory on the Ladies European Tour with a stellar performance that showcased her rising talent and composure under pressure.
Dominant Final Round Seals the Win
On Sunday at the Wollongong Golf Club, Laisne fired an impressive six-under 65 to finish the tournament at 16-under par. This score placed her one shot clear of Thailand's April Angurasaranee and Korean amateur Soomin Oh, who tied for second place. The victory marks Laisne as the second winner of the season on the Ladies European Tour, following Charley Hull's win at the PIF Saudi Ladies International last month.
"It feels really great. I'm really happy. It feels surreal and I’m very, very happy," Laisne said in an interview quoted by ladieseuropeantour.com. "What’s next? No, I’m kidding! [But this win] means that my game is improving and I’m doing the right thing. I hope to continue and I’m really happy."
Navigating Pressure and Key Moments
Laisne admitted to feeling the intensity during the final round, unaware of her exact standing on the leaderboard. "I didn’t know anything. Nothing. I just tried to make as many birdies as I could," she explained. "I felt the pressure because I knew people were around [the top], so it could have been me or could have been someone else. I didn’t know. So I tried to hit the best shots I could even with all the pressure I had."
A highlight of her round was a crucial eagle, which she described as "awesome." "I was hesitant between my 3-hybrid and my 4-wood, but I saw the wind was a little right to left and I could get there with a really good three hybrid. And when it hit, it went out of my club. I could feel like it was pretty good, but it needed a little bit more height and it did," Laisne recounted, emphasizing the precision and decision-making that contributed to her success.
Other Notable Performances at the Tournament
The Ford Women's NSW Open also featured strong showings from other competitors. Aine Donegan led the Irish challenge in her professional debut on the Ladies European Tour, carding a 70 to finish seven shots behind Laisne in a tie for 16th place at nine-under par. Donegan had topped the leaderboard after Friday's second round but a costly 74 on Saturday dropped her out of contention for the title.
Additionally, Dublin's Anna Foster finished tied for 37th place at four-under par after shooting a level-par 71 in the final round. These performances highlight the competitive depth and emerging talent within the Ladies European Tour, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
Laisne's victory not only celebrates her personal achievement but also underscores the growing global appeal of women's golf, with players from diverse backgrounds making their mark on the international stage.
