ASMITA Women's Athletics League to Kick Off in Prayagraj on International Women's Day
The ASMITA Women's Athletics League is set to take place at the Madan Mohan Malaviya Stadium (CSA Park) in Prayagraj on March 8, coinciding with the celebration of International Women's Day. This event is organized under the ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action) initiative, which is spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Part of Khelo India's 'Sports for Women' Component
The league is an integral part of the 'Sports for Women' component under the Khelo India scheme. It is being coordinated jointly by My Bharat and the Sports Authority of India (SAI). A senior official emphasized that the primary objectives of the event are to promote women's empowerment, maintain physical fitness, and expand participation in sports at the grassroots level.
Event Details and Activities
The competition will feature a variety of athletic events and recreational activities designed to engage women of all ages. Key highlights include:
- Track Races: 100m, 200m, and 400m races.
- Recreational Activities: Group events such as tug-of-war.
- Age Categories: Participants will compete in three age groups: under 13 years, 13 to 18 years, and over 18 years.
All participants will receive certificates to acknowledge their involvement, while winners will be honored with medals to recognize their achievements.
