BSF Constable Dhiramoni Rai Crowned Best Shooter at All India Police Championship
Constable Dhiramoni Rai of the Border Security Force (BSF) has been honored as the finest markswoman at the prestigious 19th All India Police Shooting Sports Championship. The championship concluded on Sunday at the Reoti Ranges in Indore, following six days of intense competition organized by the Central School of Weapons and Tactics.
Rai's Remarkable Achievement and BSF's Dominance
Dhiramoni Rai's exceptional performance earned her the coveted All India Police Sports Control Board (AIPSCB) chairman's trophy for the best shooter. Her composure under pressure drew widespread praise from officials and fellow competitors, highlighting her skill and mental fortitude. Rai's success was instrumental in anchoring a strong showing by the BSF contingent.
The BSF women's team secured the overall championship trophy in the women's category, demonstrating their supremacy in the competition. Additionally, the force claimed the best rifle and best pistol trophies among women, underscoring its depth and excellence across various shooting disciplines.
Other Notable Performances Across Categories
In the women's events, shooters from Assam Rifles, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and Uttar Pradesh featured prominently on the podium across pistol and air rifle categories. Among men, CISF clinched the overall championship trophy, with the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) finishing as runner-up. The BSF captured the best rifle trophy in the men's section, while CISF topped the pistol standings.
Notable individual performances included BSF's Chandra Raj, who won gold in the .177 air pistol 10 metre men's event. Uttar Pradesh shooters dominated the .177 air rifle 10 metre team competition. In the .22 standard pistol 25 metre men's individual event, CISF deputy commandant Samresh Jung took gold, with ITBP constable Shantanu Pundir winning silver and CISF ASI Aniruddh Singh Rana securing bronze.
The corresponding team event saw CISF again finish on top, with head constable Udit Joshi, ASI Aniruddh Singh, and Jung forming the gold medal team. Punjab Police claimed silver through constables Prabhjit Singh and Baljit Singh along with ASI Akshay Jain, while SSB earned bronze with Anil Singh, Sarang Chauhan, and constable Uttam Gandhar.
Championship Overview and Closing Ceremony
More than 600 shooters from Central Armed Police Forces, state police units, and Union Territories participated in 17 events at the championship. The tournament was conducted under the supervision of the AIPSCB and the Ministry of Home Affairs, with technical support from the National Rifle Association of India.
The closing ceremony featured a ceremonial march past by participating contingents and medal presentations to the winners. Senior officials commended the shooters for maintaining high standards of discipline and sportsmanship throughout the championship, emphasizing the event's role in promoting excellence in police sports.
