DDA Opens European-Style Cafe at Yamuna Sports Complex to Boost Public Engagement
DDA Opens European Cafe at Yamuna Sports Complex

New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) opened a new cafe at the Yamuna Sports Complex on Monday. This move aims to develop recreational facilities at its sports complexes and attract more visitors.

Enhancing User Experience with Leisure Spaces

Officials stated that the cafe serves European cuisine and beverages. It is open to members of the complex, their dependents, and non-members who pay a small fee. This initiative is part of DDA's broader plan to improve user experience at its sports facilities.

A senior DDA official explained the strategy. "We want to make sports complexes vibrant destinations where people can spend extended time, even without participating in sports activities," the official said. The authority also opened a club facility at Roshanara Club in November as part of the same approach.

Design and Inauguration Details

The new cafe at Yamuna Sports Complex has been thoughtfully designed. It reflects the elegance and charm of a European coastal villa. Officials believe it will enrich the overall experience by blending recreation, leisure, and refined hospitality.

The cafe opening coincided with the successful conclusion of the LG Cup sports tournament at the complex. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena attended the event. The tournament featured competitions in three major sports:

  • Football
  • Archery
  • Shooting

Athletes from various categories and sports complexes participated. Officials noted that the event highlighted the growing popularity of the complex. It also underscored the need for additional amenities for players, visitors, and spectators.

LG Cup Tournament Highlights

The LG Cup football tournament took place from January 12 to 16 at the DDA Sports Complex in Sector 17, Dwarka. Twelve teams competed in men's and women's categories.

The archery competition was organized from January 16 to 17. It saw participation from 94 archers representing 13 states in recurve men's and women's events. The event featured more than 10 international archers, including Youth World Champions from 2023 and 2025, as well as finalists from the 2025 World Cup. This reflected the high competitive standards and international-level facilities at the venue.

Shooting events were conducted at Siri Fort Sports Complex. They covered air rifle and air pistol categories.

DDA's Sports Infrastructure

Currently, DDA operates 18 sports complexes, four mini sports complexes, and three public golf courses. Additionally, Centres of Excellence in several sports are being developed in Dwarka and Rohini. These efforts aim to boost sports infrastructure and public engagement across Delhi.
