Haveri: Officials Emphasize Health & Duty at Govt Employees' Sports Meet
Health is Supreme Fortune, Say Officials at Haveri Sports Meet

Senior officials in Haveri district underscored the paramount importance of good health and fitness during the inauguration of a major sports and cultural event for state government staff. The district-level State Government Employees' Sports Meet and Cultural Competition commenced at the Hosamani Siddappa District Stadium in Haveri city on Friday, bringing together employees from various departments.

Health Declared the Greatest Wealth

Inaugurating the event, SFN Gajigoudar, the chairperson of the Urban Development Authority, delivered a powerful message. He stated that health was more important than any other fortune. Gajigoudar elaborated that neither education nor wealth held any value if an individual was not in good physical condition. Therefore, he emphasized that maintaining robust health was an essential priority for everyone.

Sports for Body, Mind, and Team Spirit

The sports flag was hoisted by Deputy Commissioner Vijay Mahantesh Danammanavar. He highlighted the dual benefits of sporting activities, noting that they are crucial for maintaining both physical and mental health, especially amidst the demands of daily work routines. He added that such events infuse new energy and enthusiasm among participants. To facilitate participation, the administration has provided leave facilities for the competing employees.

DC Danammanavar also reminded the gathering of their core responsibilities. He said government officials and employees must act in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution and ensure the proper implementation of public schemes. Their duties also extend to maintaining law and order and working on the frontlines during emergencies like natural disasters.

"In many instances, such as crop damage assessment and crop insurance registration, they worked more than 8 hours a day to achieve targets within deadlines," Danammanavar stated, acknowledging their extra efforts.

Celebrating Academic Progress and Lighting the Torch

The Deputy Commissioner also shared positive news on the education front, announcing an improvement in last year's SSLC and PUC exam results. Notably, in the SSLC annual examinations, government schools performed better than private schools, marking a significant achievement.

The ceremonial sports torch was received by Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Ruchi Bindal and Superintendent of Police Yashodha Vantagodi. The event was attended by Latha B.H., the Assistant Director of the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, among other dignitaries.

Mallesh Karigar, President of the Haveri District Branch of the Karnataka State Government Employees' Association, welcomed the gathering with an introductory speech. The vote of thanks was presented by teacher Nagaraj Nadvimath.
