Patrick Reed Open to PGA Tour Return, Calls It World's Best

Patrick Reed, the 2018 Masters champion and current LIV Golf player, has expressed openness to returning to the PGA Tour. He made these comments in Dubai, where he is starting his 2026 season with three DP World Tour events before LIV Golf begins next month.

Reed's Global Golf Commitment

Reed is in the Middle East as part of his commitment to competing worldwide. This dedication to the DP World Tour and Asian Tour has helped him maintain his No. 41 ranking in the Official World Golf Ranking. LIV Golf events do not offer ranking points, making his global schedule crucial for his standing.

Returning Member Program Context

Earlier this month, Brooks Koepka announced his return to the PGA Tour through the newly created Returning Member Program. Only Koepka, Cameron Smith, Bryson DeChambeau, and Jon Rahm were eligible for this program. The latter three chose to remain with LIV Golf.

Patrick Reed is not eligible for this program because his Masters victory came in 2018, before LIV Golf began. Reed has played on LIV since its inaugural season in 2022, recording one individual victory in 45 starts.

Reed's Willingness to Return

When asked at the Dubai Invitational on Saturday if he would return to the PGA Tour if allowed, Reed gave a positive response. He said he would play everywhere and joked that he is already competing on three tours.

"I would definitely consider it," Reed stated. "The PGA Tour is still the best tour in the world. If I had the chance to go back, I would take it seriously."

Maintaining Worldwide Schedule

Reed played a demanding global schedule in 2025, including 14 LIV Golf events, four major championships, 10 DP World Tour tournaments, and four Asian Tour events. He completed a total of 32 events last season.

Since winning the Masters in 2018, Reed has remained competitive in major championships. His notable performances include finishing fourth at the 2018 U.S. Open at Shinnecock, tenth at the 2019 Open Championship, top-10 finishes at Augusta in 2020 and 2021, T-4 at the Masters in 2023, and T-3 last year after contending late on Sunday.

Potential Fines and Future Plans

Starting in 2026, Reed may need to pay fines for LIV events that clash with DP World Tour tournaments. The exact fine amounts remain unknown. According to reports, LIV Golf will no longer cover these fines for its players.

Reed said he is willing to pay the fines himself. He hopes the issue gets resolved because he has always wanted to be a worldwide player. "I'm committed to playing globally," Reed emphasized. "If I have to pay fines to make that happen, I will."

Reed's Career Achievements

Patrick Reed is a nine-time PGA Tour winner who received honorary life membership on the DP World Tour in 2019. His career highlights include:

  • 2018 Masters Tournament champion
  • Nine PGA Tour victories
  • One LIV Golf individual win
  • Multiple top-10 finishes in major championships
  • Consistent worldwide tournament participation

Reed continues to balance his LIV Golf commitments with his desire to compete internationally. His comments in Dubai suggest he remains open to various opportunities in professional golf while maintaining his status as a global competitor.
