Anushka Yadav, a 17-year-old from Baleni village in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, has emerged as a new hope for Indian athletics by breaking the national record in the women's hammer throw. She achieved a throw of 64.85 meters at the National Junior Athletics Championships, surpassing the previous record of 63.74 meters held by Tanya Chaudhary.
From humble beginnings to national glory
Baleni, a village with limited resources but abundant ambition, has quietly become a cradle for Indian throwing talent. Anushka trains under coach Rajpal Singh at the Sports Authority of India's center in Meerut, often traveling long distances for practice. Her father, a farmer, and mother, a homemaker, have supported her despite financial constraints.
“I dedicate this record to my parents and coaches,” Anushka said after her feat. “The conditions in Baleni are tough, but I never gave up.”
Rising star in Indian athletics
Anushka's performance has drawn attention to the growing depth of Indian throwers. Her throw of 64.85m is a junior national record and places her among the top junior athletes globally. She aims to represent India at the World Junior Championships and eventually the Olympics.
“Anushka has immense potential,” said coach Rajpal Singh. “With proper support, she can win medals for India on the world stage.”
