Union Ministry to Host Women's Athletics Meet in Madurai on International Women's Day
In a significant move to promote women's participation in sports, the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has announced the organization of a women's athletics competition in Madurai on March 8, coinciding with International Women's Day. This event aims to empower women through sports and celebrate their achievements.

The competition will be held at the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority stadium in Madurai, a premier sports facility in the region. It will be conducted through a collaborative effort involving multiple initiatives, including MyBharat, the Sports Authority of India, Asmita, FIT India, and Khelo India. These programs are designed to foster a culture of fitness and athleticism across the country.
Race Categories and Age Groups
The athletics meet will feature a variety of track events to cater to different skill levels and age groups. The races include:
- 100m sprint
- 200m dash
- 400m run
Participants will compete in three distinct age categories to ensure fair competition and encourage broad participation:
- Under 13 years
- 13 to 18 years
- Above 18 years
