Arjun Tendulkar's Batting Struggles Overshadow Goa's Dominant Display in Ranji Trophy
Arjun Tendulkar scores 1, Goa posts 566 vs Chandigarh

Arjun Tendulkar, the young all-rounder and son of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, endured a difficult time with the bat during the ongoing Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match. The clash between Goa and Chandigarh at the Goa Cricket Association Academy Ground in Porvorim on Thursday saw Tendulkar dismissed for a mere single run.

A Brief and Disappointing Innings

Walking in to bat, Arjun Tendulkar faced only six deliveries before his innings was cut short. He was caught by substitute fielder Raman Bishnoi off the bowling of Chandigarh's Vishu Kashyap. This low score added to a period of limited activity in domestic cricket for the 26-year-old left-hander.

Goa's Batting Powerhouse and Chandigarh's Response

Tendulkar's personal disappointment was set against the backdrop of a mammoth team total for Goa. The home side piled up a massive 566 runs in 160.4 overs, thanks primarily to spectacular double centuries from two of their batters. Lalit Yadav scored 213 runs, while Abhinav Tejrana contributed a brilliant 205 to the cause.

The only bowler to find significant success for Chandigarh was Vishu Kashyap, who finished with impressive figures of 7 wickets for 173 runs. In reply, Chandigarh's openers navigated the final eight overs of the day carefully, reaching 34 for the loss of one wicket. Arjun Azad remained not out on 21, with Manan Vohra alongside him on 11.

Redemption with the Ball and Recent Career Trajectory

Arjun Tendulkar did manage to make a contribution with the ball before stumps were drawn on Day 2. He claimed Goa's lone wicket in Chandigarh's innings, offering a small measure of amends for his batting failure.

This match marks a return to first-class cricket for Tendulkar after a gap. His last first-class appearance was in November 2024 against Arunachal Pradesh, and his most recent List A game was in December of the same year. While he was part of the Mumbai Indians squad for IPL 2025, having been bought for Rs 30 lakh, he did not get a chance to play a single match during the season.

Looking at his overall first-class record, Arjun Tendulkar has played 17 matches, scoring 532 runs and taking 37 wickets. His debut in the Ranji Trophy was memorable, as he struck a century against Rajasthan. In the T20 format, he has picked up 25 wickets and scored 27 runs, primarily operating as a left-arm seamer who can contribute down the batting order.
