The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expressed its complete agreement with the International Cricket Council's stance on sportsmanship and competitive integrity. This development comes in response to Pakistan's recent decision to boycott its scheduled group-stage match against India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026.
BCCI's Cautious Approach and Formal Communication Protocol
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla emphasized the Indian cricket board's alignment with the global governing body's position while adopting a measured approach to public commentary. "ICC has issued a significant statement addressing sportsmanship principles. We completely agree with the ICC's perspective. BCCI will refrain from making any further comments on this matter until we engage in formal discussions with the ICC," Shukla stated, highlighting the board's commitment to procedural propriety.

Shukla's remarks followed the Pakistan government's announcement that while it had cleared the national team's participation in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, it would specifically prohibit the side from taking the field against India in the February 15 fixture. The government's social media statement declared the team "shall not take the field" for the India match without providing specific reasons for this selective boycott decision.
The International Cricket Council responded firmly to this development, asserting that "selective participation fundamentally contradicts the core principles of global sporting events." In its official release, the ICC acknowledged the Pakistan government's statement while awaiting formal communication from the Pakistan Cricket Board.
