Bengaluru-Mumbai Superfast Train to Launch by June End

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has announced that the much-anticipated Bengaluru-Mumbai superfast train will be launched by the end of June. The train, which is currently under development, will initially operate as a superfast service and will later be converted into a Vande Bharat sleeper train. This move is part of the Indian Railways' efforts to enhance connectivity between the two major cities and provide passengers with a more comfortable and faster travel experience.

Key Details of the Train Launch

The announcement was made by Pralhad Joshi, the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Coal, during a recent event. He stated that the train is expected to commence operations by June end, pending final approvals and infrastructure readiness. The train will cover the distance between Bengaluru and Mumbai in approximately 10 hours, significantly reducing travel time compared to existing services.

Conversion to Vande Bharat Sleeper

According to Joshi, the train will initially run as a superfast service but will be upgraded to a Vande Bharat sleeper train in the future. The Vande Bharat sleeper variant is designed to offer enhanced comfort with modern amenities, including reclining seats, better ventilation, and improved safety features. This upgrade aligns with the government's vision of modernizing railway infrastructure and promoting indigenous train technology.

Benefits for Passengers

The launch of this train is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters and travelers between Bengaluru and Mumbai. Key advantages include:

  • Reduced travel time by up to 2-3 hours compared to current trains.
  • Improved comfort with state-of-the-art sleeper coaches.
  • Enhanced safety features and onboard services.
  • Affordable pricing to cater to a wide range of passengers.

Infrastructure and Preparations

The Indian Railways is working on upgrading the track infrastructure along the route to support higher speeds. Additionally, stations at both ends are being equipped with modern facilities to handle the increased passenger traffic. The train will likely have multiple stops at key intermediate stations, including Pune and Hubli, to serve more passengers.

Government's Vision for Railways

This initiative is part of the broader plan to introduce Vande Bharat trains across major routes in India. The sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train is expected to be a game-changer for long-distance travel, offering a premium experience at competitive prices. The government aims to have at least 75 Vande Bharat trains operational by the end of 2024, with many more in the pipeline.

Pralhad Joshi emphasized that the Bengaluru-Mumbai route is a high-demand corridor, and the new train will address the growing need for efficient and comfortable travel. The conversion to a Vande Bharat sleeper will further enhance the travel experience, making it comparable to international standards.
