Nagpur: The Gadchiroli district is poised to mark a historic milestone on Maharashtra Day, May 1, when 145 Director General of Police (DG) Insignia medals and 500 newly instituted C-60 Service Medals will be conferred upon police personnel who have been instrumental in the fight against Left-Wing Extremism. This recognition comes as part of the national deadline to eliminate Maoism by March 31.
Key Awardees and Their Contributions
Among the recipients is Sub-Divisional Police Officer Amar Mohite of the Bhamragarh division, who led numerous operations in the former stronghold of Abujhmarh. The C-60 Service Medal, a new honor introduced by the Maharashtra Government this year, acknowledges the exceptional contributions of the elite C-60 commando force in the anti-Maoist campaign.
Several serving officers from the Nagpur police have also been selected for the DG Insignia for their outstanding service. These include Deputy Commissioners of Police Niketan Kadam and Lohit Matani, currently serving in Nagpur. Senior Inspector Mukund Kawade, in-charge of Beltarodi police station, has been recognized for his ground-level leadership.
Recognitions Across Departments
Senior Inspector Subhangi Deshmukh from the Crime Branch has been honored for her sharp investigative skills, while Senior Inspector Kailash Deshmane, in-charge of Nandanvan Police Station, earned acclaim for his operational efficiency. Senior Inspector Praveen Kale of Kalamna police station is also among the recipients. From Beltarodi police station, Sub-Inspector Kishor Malokar and Head Constable Suhas Shingne have been recognized for their consistent performance in field operations and dedication to duty. Crime Branch Constable Ashwin Mange was also named as a medal recipient.

The awards not only highlight the gallantry of the Maharashtra police in encounter operations but also recognize sustained service, intelligence gathering, and community-oriented policing. A senior official stated that these medals will serve as a major morale booster for the men and women in uniform, underscoring the state's commitment to eradicating extremism and ensuring peace.
