Shreyanka Patil Ruled Out of Women's T20 World Cup Due to Ankle Injury
Shreyanka Patil Out of T20 World Cup with Ankle Injury (20.06.2026)

Shreyanka Patil's injury struggles have continued as her ICC Women's T20 World Cup campaign ended prematurely. The 23-year-old off-spinner from Karnataka, who had seemingly overcome a prolonged injury nightmare, suffered an ankle injury during India's Group A match against the Netherlands on Friday, sidelining her from the tournament. This development deals a significant blow to India's bowling plans. Uncapped leg-spinner Prema Rawat has been named as her replacement.

Injury Details

The injury occurred in the final over of the power play during Wednesday's game. Shreyanka bowled just one delivery of her opening over before twisting her right ankle while attempting to field the ball. She winced in pain and was unable to put weight on her foot. After being stretchered off the field, Shafali Verma completed the over.

Recurring Setbacks

This latest blow continues a frustrating pattern for one of India's most promising cricketers. Shreyanka missed the previous ODI World Cup due to an ACL tear, which kept her out of action for nearly 11 months. Additionally, a broken finger ruled her out of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Just before the match against the Netherlands, the Bengaluru cricketer had opened up about her struggle with depression during the long injury layoff.

Replacement Player

Her replacement, 24-year-old Prema Rawat, was among the standout performers in the Rising Stars Women's Asia Cup, claiming eight wickets at an economy rate of 4.27. She is currently with the India A side in England.

West Indies Prevail Over Scotland

In another match on Thursday, West Indies defeated Scotland by seven runs, staying unbeaten in the tournament. Scotland needed 154 runs to win and were at 132-5 in their chase, but a late collapse saw them bowled out for 146.

Brief scores: West Indies 153/6 (S Taylor 47*, S Campbelle 36, Fraser 2/34) beat Scotland 146 (D Carter 59, A Alleyne 3/11, H Matthews 3/19) by seven runs.
