Stefon Diggs has finally offered the clearest indication yet about where he would like to play next. The veteran wide receiver remains unsigned, but his latest remarks have pushed the Washington Commanders to the front of the conversation.
During a recent interview with FOX 5 in Washington, D.C., Diggs spoke openly about the possibility of joining his hometown team. While he stopped short of confirming any talks, his comments left little doubt that a return home appeals to him. For a player still weighing his options ahead of training camp, it was the strongest public clue he has given about his NFL future.
Stefon Diggs Makes It Clear That a Commanders Homecoming Remains on His Mind
Stefon Diggs discussed the prospect of playing for Washington during his FOX 5 appearance in his hometown. The four-time First-Team All-Pro admitted that the thought crossed his mind early in the process.
"I did have a small piece of me like, damn, it would be great to come home and play in front of the fans I used to play in front of as a young adolescent," Diggs said.
The conversation became even more revealing when he was asked whether he had seriously considered playing for the Commanders.
"100 percent," Diggs replied. "That's one of the first things I thought about. If I wanted to come back and play for my hometown team."
Those remarks quickly generated buzz around the league. Stefon Diggs has been linked to several teams since entering free agency, but this marks the first time he has publicly expressed such a strong interest in one destination.
The connection makes sense. Stefon Diggs grew up in the Washington area and later stayed close to home while playing college football at the University of Maryland. A move to the Commanders would give him a rare chance to finish a decorated NFL career in front of family, friends and the community that watched him develop into a star.
Washington also has football reasons to explore the move. The Commanders already have one of the league's most exciting young quarterbacks in Jayden Daniels. Terry McLaurin remains the team's top receiving threat, but adding an experienced target like Diggs could give the offense another proven weapon.
Meanwhile, Diggs remains one of the biggest names available on the market. The 32-year-old spent the 2025 season with the New England Patriots after previous stops with the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans. Earlier this offseason, New England released him as part of a cap-saving move.
Several teams, including the Chiefs, Raiders and Ravens, have surfaced in offseason speculation. A reunion with Buffalo has also generated discussion. However, Diggs' own words have changed the picture.
For months, the league has wondered where the veteran receiver might land. Right now, the strongest signal points directly toward Washington.
