Salem: The Tamizhaga Vetrri Kazhagam (TVK) dealt a major blow to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in the Salem region during the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections, defeating three sitting ministers. The results highlight the growing influence of TVK, led by actor Vijay, as a formidable political force in the state.
Salem North Constituency
In Salem North, Tourism Minister R. Rajendran of the DMK lost to TVK's K. Sivakumar. Rajendran secured 71,676 votes, while Sivakumar polled 85,710 votes, winning by a margin of 14,034 votes.
Rasipuram Constituency
In Rasipuram, Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister Dr. M. Mathivendan was defeated by TVK's D. Logesh Dhanapal. Mathivendan received 57,854 votes, while Logesh Dhanapal polled 74,808 votes, winning by 16,954 votes. Interestingly, BJP's Premkumar S. D. secured 60,297 votes, pushing the minister to third place.
Erode West Constituency
In Erode West, Housing and Urban Development Minister S. Muthusamy lost to TVK's K. K. Ananth Moghan. Muthusamy got 74,586 votes, while Ananth Moghan secured 96,836 votes, winning by a margin of 22,250 votes. BJP's M. Yuvaraja finished second with 38,185 votes.
These results indicate a significant shift in voter sentiment in the Salem region, with TVK emerging as a strong contender against the ruling DMK.
