The governing body of the UPT20 League has granted franchises the freedom to appoint coaches and managers for their respective teams according to their own strategies and preferences for the upcoming season.
Flexibility for Franchises
League chairman Sanjay Kapoor said the decision was taken to give franchises greater flexibility in selecting their team management and support staff in line with their competitive plans. However, he clarified that franchises must give priority to coaches from Uttar Pradesh who have represented the state in national championships. He added that if any franchise wishes to appoint a coach from outside the state, prior permission from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) will be mandatory.
In previous editions of the league, franchises had to choose coaches, managers and support staff from a panel provided by the UPCA. Kapoor said the league administration has made efforts to ensure greater transparency this year and has also revised the salaries of support staff and other officials associated with the teams.
Mini Auction Introduced
He further announced that a mini auction of players will be introduced for the forthcoming edition. “Franchises will be allowed to retain between six and 12 players from their previous squads, while the remaining players will be selected through the auction process,” Kapoor added. He said franchises have already begun talent hunts and trial sessions in different cities to identify emerging cricketers for the tournament.
Schedule and Updates
The 2026 edition of the UPT20 League will begin on Aug 14 and conclude on Sept 6.
