Premier League players from the 2025/26 season have now registered 100 goal contributions at the FIFA World Cup 2026, according to OptaJoe. The milestone was reached after Anthony Gordon provided an assist in the round of 32 clash between England and DR Congo, where Harry Kane scored a brace. The total comprises 54 goals and 46 assists from players who featured in the Premier League during the 2025/26 season.
The Premier League's official X handle celebrated the achievement, posting: "Premier League players from 2025/26 have now registered 100 goal contributions at the World Cup."
Arsenal Stars Dominate Assists
Arsenal players have been particularly influential in the assist department. Six Arsenal players have provided assists in the tournament, more than any other club. Martin Odegaard leads with three assists, followed by Viktor Gyokeres and Bukayo Saka with two each. Gabriel Magalhaes, Declan Rice, and Leandro Trossard have one assist apiece, collectively accounting for 10 assists, as per OptaJoe.
This dominance highlights the creative quality within Mikel Arteta's squad, contributing significantly to the Premier League's overall tally.
Kane's Historic Brace Sinks DR Congo
In the match itself, Harry Kane delivered a late masterclass, scoring in the 75th and 86th minutes to secure a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory for England against DR Congo. The Congolese had taken an early lead through Brian Cipenka in the seventh minute and dominated large portions of the game. England will now travel to Mexico for their round of 16 clash at the iconic Azteca venue against Mexico, scheduled for Monday.
Kane etched his name deeper into FIFA World Cup history by surpassing Brazilian legend Pele's World Cup goal tally of 12. With his two strikes, Kane now has 13 World Cup goals, one more than Pele. Additionally, he overtook Geoff Hurst (4 goals) for the second-most World Cup knockout goals for England, with five. Only Gary Lineker (six) has more knockout goals for England, though Kane has surpassed Lineker's overall World Cup tally of 10 goals.
The achievement underscores the Premier League's global impact, with players from the 2025/26 season contributing a century of goal involvements in the ongoing World Cup.
