Chennai winds force flight diversions to Tirupati, Trichy

Chennai: Heavy wind coupled with a sudden shower forced airport authorities to divert two Chennai-bound flights to Tirupati and Trichy airports on Thursday. Arrivals and departures of a few other flights were also delayed.

Flight Diversions

Indigo’s ATR flight from Salem with about 70 passengers, which departed at 3:34 pm, was diverted to Tirupati as the flight could not land in Chennai due to storm-like wind. The flight made a safe landing in Tirupati around 5:30 pm.

Similarly, another Indigo flight from Kolkata that departed at 3:20 pm had to take off after nearing touchdown at Chennai airport around 5:15 pm, and was later diverted to Trichy. The flight landed in Trichy at 5:45 pm.
