Disney Plus experienced a significant outage that left thousands of users unable to access the streaming platform, prompting the company to acknowledge the problem and work on a resolution. Users across multiple countries reported difficulties, with many unable to log in or use the app effectively.
Outage Reports Surge
Data from outage tracking website DownDetector indicated a sharp increase in complaints. Login issues constituted nearly half of all reports, while others involved app malfunctions and server connection problems. The outage first emerged on Thursday, June 18 night in Australia and escalated on Friday, June 19 morning. It appeared to impact users globally, including subscribers in the United States and other regions.
According to reports, over 50,000 users worldwide encountered issues accessing Disney Plus during the disruption. Many subscribers could not sign into their accounts, and others experienced improper app functionality. The outage disrupted access to live content, causing some users to miss live sporting events, such as a Major League Baseball game between the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox streamed on Disney-owned services.
Disney Plus Acknowledges and Resolves Issue
Disney Plus acknowledged the outage in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating: "We're currently investigating issues affecting login for some users and hope to have this resolved soon. Thank you for your patience!" The streaming platform's support team responded to user complaints on X, with one reply saying: "We're sorry to hear about this experience. Our team is already aware of the instability that's occurring and is working to fix it as soon as possible." In another response, Disney Plus wrote: "We're aware of it and working to resolve it as quickly as possible!"
The company later confirmed that the issue had been fixed. In a follow-up message, Disney Plus said: "We're happy to report this issue is resolved! Thanks again for your patience while we worked through this."
