Karnataka to Hold CET Counselling in June Despite NEET Delay
Karnataka CET Counselling in June Amid NEET Delay

Bengaluru: Karnataka has decided to proceed with its Common Entrance Test (CET) seat selection process in June without waiting for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) results, as NEET counselling is expected to be delayed.

Reason for the Decision

Typically, CET counselling is scheduled to align with medical seat counselling, allowing students to choose the best possible seats. However, the cancellation of NEET and the rescheduling of the retest to June 21 have disrupted the entire timeline.

Higher Education Minister MC Sudhakar stated, “We have therefore decided to go ahead with CET counselling in June itself. There could be around 200 engineering seats that are likely to fall vacant when students start picking NEET seats. Those seats that fall vacant would be added in the second round of CET counselling, and all students will be allowed to participate in that round to compete for those seats.”

Agreement with Private Colleges

The minister also mentioned that private colleges have agreed to this arrangement. They have assured that any fees charged to students will be refunded if they upgrade their seats later.

“We have also discussed the matter with private colleges. They have agreed to this idea. They have also assured that any fees they charge will be returned to students when they upgrade the seats,” he added.

Status of CET Results

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has not yet decided when the CET results will be announced. The PU-2 results have been released, but a retest of the practical exam for the agriculturist quota is pending. Sudhakar said, “We are yet to decide on when to announce the results.”

This move aims to ensure that students do not face further delays in their academic plans due to the NEET schedule changes.
