I have been working for a company for 4.5 years that pays me INR 70k. Recently I got laid off from restructuring. While I was still in a state of shock and had a spat with HR over the severance payout, that very day I got a job offer where the company is based out of India, he wrote.

New Job Details

According to the post, the new employer is based outside India and the role is fully remote. The employee said his responsibilities would include helping clients use the product and troubleshooting issues.

My new job will be WFH, and I will work for the client now, where I would help them get used to the product, troubleshoot etc, he wrote.

The employee said the new role would pay around Rs 1.58 lakh per month, with the salary being paid in US dollars.

I wanted to say I got a salary raise, now I will get a salary around INR 1.58 lakhs per month. They will be paying in US dollars, he added.

Emotional Reaction

Despite the sharp jump in earnings, the employee admitted he was finding it difficult to believe the turn of events.

This feels unreal to an extent where I feel guilty to even think I will get that sort of money. I cannot believe it's luck if it's the timing. Does getting undervalued make you really believe that you are not worth anything good? It still feels like a dream, he wrote.

Social Media Response

The post resonated with many social media users, who congratulated the employee and urged him to have confidence in his abilities.

Many congratulations OP! You deserve it. Have confidence in yourself. You are going to do great, one user commented.

Another wrote, It is a competitive market, so if you made it, you deserve it. Next step is to deliver what you promised you will.

A third user said, Glad to see people are not staying loyal to the company and realising strategic switch equals a great hike.

Several others said the story was a reminder that employees should know their worth and not allow themselves to be undervalued.
