Maharashtra CET Cell Clarifies Engineering Admissions Unaffected by NEET Delays
Maharashtra CET: Engineering Admissions Not Impacted by NEET

The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell on Thursday issued a clarification to ease growing concerns among students and parents regarding engineering admissions in the state. Recent reports had linked potential delays in the admission timeline to the NEET 2026 examination cycle, but the CET Cell has now drawn a clear distinction between the two processes.

NEET Impact Limited to Specific Courses

The CET Cell emphasized that NEET scores are relevant only to a narrow subset of courses. These include nine specialized programmes: agriculture engineering, biotechnology, food engineering, leather technology, packaging technology, pharmaceutical engineering, printing engineering, fashion technology, and textile chemistry. Even within these courses, only 15% of seats under the All India quota are filled using NEET scores. Moreover, these courses are offered exclusively in 17 government-approved institutions across Maharashtra.

Majority of Engineering Admissions Unaffected

Officials pointed out that admissions to the vast majority of engineering courses are governed by the schedule laid down by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). This schedule will continue unaffected, ensuring that most students can proceed with their admission plans without disruption.

In the event that NEET re-examination results are delayed, the CET Cell has indicated that the limited number of seats dependent on NEET scores will be temporarily set aside. The admission process for all other seats will move forward as planned, ensuring that timelines are not derailed.

This clarification arrives at a critical juncture, as students await clarity on multiple entrance examinations and their cascading impact on admissions. The CET Cell's statement aims to provide reassurance and maintain a smooth admission process for engineering aspirants across Maharashtra.
