The Punjab School Education Department has launched Mission Raftaar, a flagship initiative to introduce modern technology education in 425 government schools across the state. The programme will be implemented initially in 356 PM-SHRI Schools and 69 government senior secondary schools, aiming to equip students with 21st-century skills as outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.
Focus on Emerging Technologies
Under Mission Raftaar, students will receive hands-on exposure to artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, cybersecurity, and Industry 4.0 technologies. The goal is to transform students from mere users of technology into creators and innovators, preparing them for higher education and future careers in a rapidly digitalizing world.
According to guidelines issued by the Director General, School Education, each participating school will be developed as a digital innovation hub. Computer faculty will serve as technology mentors, guiding students through practical projects and experiments.
Digital Clubs and Safety Initiatives
Schools will establish digital innovation and cyber safety clubs to encourage innovation and promote safe technology use. These clubs will provide a platform for students to collaborate on projects, participate in competitions, and learn about responsible online behavior.
Implementation Timeline and Training
District Education Officers have been directed to appoint district and school nodal officers within three days to ensure smooth implementation. The programme was officially introduced through an online orientation-cum-launch session held on June 25, attended by senior education officials and heads of all 425 selected schools.
The Punjab Government believes that Mission Raftaar will strengthen the state’s education system by creating a modern digital learning environment and preparing students for future opportunities. The initiative aligns with the state's broader vision to integrate technology into education and bridge the digital divide.
