Nagpur: An 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Nagpur, Abdullah Mohammad Talib, was in for a shock after his recently generated hall ticket showed Abu Dhabi, 2500km away, as his examination centre for the re-test scheduled on June 21.
The hall ticket, generated on June 14, listed the overseas location — Abu Dhabi Indian School — as his NEET exam centre. The family swiftly contacted the NTA helpline, where an official assured the error would be rectified soon. However, with two days left for the exam, the mistake remains uncorrected.
The Talib family said they were so worried they began arranging travel documents and flight tickets, if the exam centre was not changed. The student does not have a passport, and his parents were concerned about completing passport formalities and flight bookings at such short notice. Despite the hurdles, they are still considering sending him to Abu Dhabi so that he would not lose the opportunity to appear for the exam.
Talib was already under stress after the NEET paper leak and had not fully recovered from the setback, when the hall ticket error added to the trauma. The family said they are in constant touch with the NTA helpline.
NTA officials did not respond to TOI queries. However, sources said the agency is almost set to conduct a mock drill on Saturday and widespread changes may not be possible at this stage. Meanwhile, several parents reported their children’s exam centres were changed in the hall ticket, despite not opting for any.
After cancellation of the earlier NEET examination last month, NTA had sent messages to registered mobile numbers of parents and students asking whether they wanted to retain the existing centre or choose a new one. NTA had also sought bank details for a refund of Rs 2,500 exam fee, parents said. No new fee has been charged. Many parents claimed they selected the option to keep the original exam centre, especially those located in Nagpur city limits. However, after downloading fresh hall tickets, some found their centres shifted to far-flung locations or even to another district.
Lecturer Nishat Ali said, “We received only one message from NTA asking for exam centre preference. We selected the option to retain the same centre near SFS College, Nagpur. But now it has been changed to Binani College, which is very far from our home. When we raised the issue, NTA told us to keep downloading the hall ticket again and again.”
Animal rights activist Imran Faruqui also reported a similar issue. He said his son was initially allotted a college in Ajni as the exam centre, but the revised hall ticket shifted the centre to a college outside city limits — Kamptee.
“During the application for re-test, we selected the option to retain the centre, but it was changed. We are being told by NTA officials to keep downloading the hall ticket every day so that latest changes can reflect,” Faruqui said. Sources said NTA officials are continuing to update the examination database, which could have led to errors in hall ticket generation.
