Regional OTT platform STAGE and production house Sunshine Productions have partnered to create 'Daakan', a premium horror web-series rooted in Rajasthani folklore. The series will stream exclusively on STAGE in the Rajasthani dialect.
Partnership Details
Announced on June 27, 2026, the collaboration brings together STAGE's dominance in dialect-based content with Sunshine Productions' storytelling expertise. 'Daakan' is described as a chilling, multi-episode series delving into primal fears and ancient lore of Rajasthan, offering a culturally authentic horror experience.
STAGE's Role
STAGE, India's largest dialect-based OTT platform launched in 2019, has produced hit titles like 'Saanwari', 'Punarjanam', 'Khejdi', and 'Naate'. The platform serves audiences in Haryanvi, Rajasthani, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, and more. Parveen Singhal, Co-Founder & CCO of STAGE, stated: 'At STAGE, we constantly push the boundaries of what dialect entertainment can be. The audiences of Bharat are deeply connected to the stories, spirits, and folklore of their land and yet, this space has been dramatically underserved in the horror genre. Daakan is our way of changing that.'
Sunshine Productions' Legacy
Founded in 1997 by Seema and Sudhir Sharma, Sunshine Productions has produced award-winning content across TV, OTT, and films. Their series 'Jamnapaar' ranked among India's Top 10 most-watched original series in 2024-25 (Ormax), while 'Yeh Meri Family' won multiple Exchange4Media Awards including Best Drama Series. The duo commented: 'Our mantra has always been "Entertainment with relevance" -- and nothing could be more relevant to Rajasthan's audiences than a horror story told in their own voice, steeped in the folklore they have grown up with.'
Impact and Vision
'Daakan' marks a significant foray into dialect-based horror, a genre largely unexplored in Indian OTT. The partnership aims to set a new benchmark for horror in regional content. Sunshine Productions' OTT slate also includes 'Salt City', 'Only for Singles', and 'Knock Knock Killer', while TV landmarks include 'Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha', '12/24 Karol Bagh', and 'Miley Jab Hum Tum'.
