AI Used to Research Murder Techniques

In a case highlighting the potential misuse of artificial intelligence, a 19-year-old engineering student from Siwan district, Bihar, allegedly used an AI-based platform to gather information on committing a murder while leaving minimal visible injuries, according to police. The student, identified as Shahnawaz Alam, reportedly carried out the crime with the help of his minor brother, targeting a man who had objected to his relationship with a female relative.

Victim and Motive

The victim, Kamre Alam (40), a resident of Lakdi village, had recently returned from abroad. Investigators stated that he had consistently objected to the relationship between Shahnawaz and one of his relatives, which led to the deadly conspiracy. Shahnawaz, who was home for summer vacation, involved his younger brother in the plot.

Details of the Crime

On the night of June 18, the duo allegedly lured Kamre to a secluded spot behind a school in Lakdidhuri Rai Tola, Lakdinbigha area. There, they struck him on the head with a lump of hardened mud, rendering him unconscious, before stuffing mud into his mouth and face, causing death by suffocation. Police recovered the body from bushes behind the school and sent it for postmortem.

AI Platform Evidence

Siwan Superintendent of Police Puran Kumar Jha stated that the accused researched murder techniques through an AI-based platform, specifically searching for ways to reduce visible injury marks and make it difficult for police to determine the circumstances of the killing. “The proof of use of the AI platform has been found from his mobile phone,” Jha said. An FIR has been lodged against both accused.

Discovery and Arrest

The murder was uncovered during a routine night patrol. Police noticed mud stains on the clothes of two youths riding a motorcycle. When they attempted to flee, officers chased them down. During questioning, the duo admitted to killing a man. Examination of their mobile phones revealed photographs of Kamre and other evidence. Acting on their information, police recovered the body.

Audio Recording and Investigation

Investigators also found an audio recording on Shahnawaz’s mobile phone, capturing conversations before the murder and sounds from the crime spot. The accused allegedly recorded the incident to play for his girlfriend and show his commitment to their relationship. The autopsy confirmed suffocation as the cause of death, with limited external injuries. The SP said, “The accused was arrested, and his minor brother was detained. The audio recording is expected to play a key role in the ongoing investigation.”
