Colts Eye Stefon Diggs After Patriots Release: Free Agency Buzz
Colts Could Target Stefon Diggs in Free Agency Move

The Indianapolis Colts have endured a challenging period on the field over the past two seasons, posting consecutive records of 8 wins and 9 losses. This recent stretch of poor performance has marked the team's fifth consecutive season without a playoff appearance, sparking significant concern among fans and analysts alike. As the new season approaches, all attention is focused on the team's roster decisions and potential acquisitions.

Colts Might Pursue Former Patriots Star Stefon Diggs

According to a recent prediction by USA Today's Nate Davis, the Indianapolis Colts could make a move for former New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs, following his exceptional performance last season. Davis noted, "With more than $25 million in their cap coffers, a team that may be in win-now mode – at least as it applies to GM Chris Ballard, coach Shane Steichen and even (to some degree) QB Daniel Jones – might also consider taking a flier on Diggs."

Roster Needs and Complementary Options

Davis further elaborated on the Colts' receiving corps, stating, "Alec Pierce may now be making No. 1 wide receiver money, but he has yet to prove he can fulfill the role on the field." He added, "And with Michael Pittman now in Pittsburgh, Diggs could be a more appealing complementary option than Josh Downs or Nick Westbrook-Ikhine."

However, the Indianapolis Colts have not officially commented on trade talks regarding Stefon Diggs. Since the New England Patriots released the 32-year-old wide receiver in February 2025, Diggs has been linked to several rival teams. There have also been strong rumors of the Patriots re-signing Diggs for the upcoming season, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Diggs' Performance and Free Agency Status

The 2024 season was a tough one for Stefon Diggs, as he sustained a brutal ACL tear. However, he bounced back impressively in the following season after signing a $63 million deal with the New England Patriots. In the last season, across 17 regular-season games, Diggs recorded 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also added 14 catches for 110 yards and one touchdown in 4 postseason games. Despite his exceptional performance, Diggs remains a free agent, and all eyes are on where he will end up next.
