Google Unveils AI-Powered Restaurant Discovery and Booking Feature for Indian Users

Google has initiated the rollout of advanced agentic capabilities within its AI Mode specifically for users in India, with the inaugural feature focusing on restaurant reservation discovery. This innovative functionality empowers users to articulate their precise dining requirements—including party size, preferred date and time, location, and cuisine type—directly within the search interface. AI Mode then takes over, conducting real-time scans across major platforms such as Zomato, Swiggy, and EazyDiner to identify available options and provide direct links to booking pages.

Streamlining the Multi-App Process into a Single Search Query

The core objective of this development is to consolidate what traditionally involves navigating multiple applications into one seamless Search query. By leveraging AI, Google aims to eliminate the friction associated with switching between apps to check availability, compare options, and make reservations. This represents a significant step forward in making digital interactions more efficient and user-friendly for Indian consumers.

Powered by Project Mariner, Google Maps, and Live Web Browsing Technology

Underneath the surface, this feature harnesses the robust capabilities of Project Mariner's live web browsing, Google's extensive Knowledge Graph, and deep integration with Google Maps. Unlike static listing aggregators, it actively verifies live availability across partner platforms in real time, compiling a curated shortlist of viable restaurants. Once a user selects an establishment, AI Mode facilitates a direct link to the booking page, enabling a swift and hassle-free reservation completion.

Just the Beginning: Broader AI Expansion in the Indian Market

Google has indicated that this restaurant booking feature is merely the starting point. The company anticipates introducing more agentic use cases and expanding partner integrations in the future, although a specific timeline for subsequent releases has not been disclosed. This initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to deepen Google's artificial intelligence footprint across India.

In recent weeks, Google has also expanded its Search Live feature to support nine additional Indian languages—Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu—powered by the Gemini 3.1 Flash Live model. Concurrently, Shopping in AI Mode received a significant overhaul, now featuring shoppable listings, detailed comparison tables, and direct purchase links within the chat interface. These enhancements collectively underscore Google's commitment to tailoring advanced AI solutions to meet the diverse needs of the Indian digital landscape.
