Nimhans Commissions Rs 35 Crore Neuroscience Museum

The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (Nimhans) in Bengaluru has commissioned private firm Tagbin to develop a large-scale neuroscience-led immersive museum valued at approximately Rs 35 crore. The 'Museum of Brain and Mind' is built around the concept: 'Know why you are the way you are.' It aims to bridge the gap between the brain and the mind, covering brain anatomy, cognitive processes, human evolution, and neurological and psychiatric disorders.

Interactive and Immersive Experience

Tagbin states this will be India's first large-scale neuroscience-led immersive museum, designed as a continuous journey rather than standalone exhibits. Visitors will move through zones on brain structure, life cycle development, emotional and cognitive processes, therapeutic approaches like music and color therapy, and the relationship between brain, society, and technology. Over 50 interactive installations will use sensor-based interfaces, audio-visual storytelling, immersive simulations, gaming, and visual art. Tagbin CEO Saurav Bhaik said the approach translates Nimhans' clinical and research expertise into accessible experiences for the general audience.

Educational and Empathy-Building Goals

Complex neurological and psychiatric science will be presented through interactive exhibits and narrative-led spaces designed to be emotionally engaging. The intended effects are fourfold: educating visitors on brain science, dismantling myths and stigma around mental health, encouraging preventive awareness of disorders, and building empathy through immersive depictions of real conditions and therapies.

The museum will also house the largest collection of preserved brains, lending it significant scientific and research value. It draws on inputs from neuroscience, psychiatry, psychology, rehabilitation medicine, and traditional knowledge systems, making it one of the most interdisciplinary museum projects in India.

Tagbin's Broader Portfolio

The Nimhans project is part of Tagbin's broader portfolio, which includes an aerospace experience initiative for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bengaluru launched in April 2026, the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya in New Delhi, and smart tourism platforms for Ladakh. The firm has executed over 100 projects with a cumulative value exceeding Rs 500 crore and engages more than 10 million visitors annually across physical and digital platforms.
